Revolutionising copper to relieve the small cell backhaul bottleneck at CommunicAsia

10.05.2014

Visit the Genesis team, stand BQ3-08, at CommunicAsia from 17th to 20th June 2014, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore and find out more about revolutionising copper to relieve the small cell backhaul bottleneck.

Cisco’s VNI Mobile Data research found that that global mobile data traffic will increase nearly 11-fold between 2013 and 2018, with mobile data traffic growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 61 percent from 2013 to 2018, reaching 15.9 Exabytes per month by 2018.

Whilst operators are keen to realise content and delivery revenues associated with mobile data growth, they recognise the challenge of developing networks that can accommodate future consumer demands.

Whilst small cells are widely accepted as being key to addressing the radio access network capacity challenge, they create a huge problem for backhaul infrastructure, namely providing backhaul with sufficient capacity and quality of service.

2013 research from Infonetics predicts that $5 billion USD will be spent on small cell backhaul infrastructure by 2016, with backhaul connections increasing from 7,000 in 2013 to 1.5 million by 2016.

The model for mobile base station (BTS) backhaul does not scale to small cells.  Mobile providers generally give strong consideration to annual revenue per base station when making base station deployment decisions.  As small cells simply do not have the required number of users to achieve the target revenue per numbers, fibre and microwave solutions are generally not economically feasible.

A different approach to small cell backhaul is needed and bonded copper has a role to play in the solution.

mBond™, Genesis Technical System’s unique superfast bonding solution offers a multitude of benefits to operators and service providers looking to deliver fast, affordable mobile broadband to their consumers.

Visit the Genesis stand to find out more about mBond and pick up your free pre-publication copy of the new Genesis whitepaper that considers small cell backhaul options for fixed and integrated network operators.

Genesis CTO, Stephen Cooke and Genesis VP Sales, Diarmid Massey will be available during CommunicAsia to discuss the latest developments of mBond as it continues to move from strength to strength. Please contact amy.macdonald@proactivepr.com to arrange briefings and interviews with Stephen or Diarmid.

If you are unable to visit Genesis at CommunicAsia but would like to receive an electronic copy of the white paper when it is published, please email  clair.mackenzie@genesistechsys.com.
