Genesis Technical Systems CTO, Stephen Cooke, to share insight on integrating residential broadband and next generation wireless services

05.05.2016

Genesis is pleased to announce that Stephen Cooke will be speaking at the ISE Expo in San Antonio, taking place 20-22 September, 2016.

Over the past few years small cell deployment rates have been somewhat slower than initially forecast due to a number of challenges associated with affordability, location, site access, adequate backhaul bandwidth and power.

However, in spite of the challenges operators remain committed to meeting coverage and capacity demands associated with continued growth of mobile data traffic due to consumer adoption of smart phones, wearable devices and the Internet of Things.

In order for Small Cells to proliferate as a viable solution they need to be affordable. They need to be inexpensive to site, inexpensive to backhaul, and inexpensive to power. The number of subscribers served by each Small Cell is low, perhaps 20, compared to the hundreds or thousands served per macrocell, making cost the critical factor as Small Cells still need a viable average revenue per user (ARPU) value.

In his seminar ‘Aggregating and Sharing Legacy Networks for Integrating Residential Broadband and Next Generation Wireless Services’, Stephen will present a novel solution to enable quick and affordable deployment of Small Cells, carrier WiFi and other services at locations where they are most needed; close to the home and place of work. Steve will demonstrate how the existing copper network can be used to avoid site access challenges, to provide adequate backhaul bandwidth, and to meet the necessary power requirements…all at an affordable and viable cost.
