Lloyed Lobo, For The Calgary Herald, Published: Monday, May 21, 2012
Lloyed Lobo of the Calgary Herald recently interviewed Genesis President and CTO, Stephen Cooke. They discussed entrepreneurships and high tech start-ups in Canada, and talk about DSL Rings technology in the Telecoms industry.
Lobo asked Cooke “How did you come up with the idea for your startup?” Cooke responded
“I had heard a radio announcement from Shaw Communications that they were going to offer commercial-grade Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) in direct competition with Telus. I thought there had to be a way for Telus to compete by reusing their existing infrastructure without having to install costly optical fibre. I was a Nortel optical systems architect and knew the costs were far too high for residential access purposes.”
Lobo asked Cooke “What has contributed to your success to this point?” Cooke”Passion, patience and persistence. Never be satisfied with what you can achieve . . . you have to keep grabbing at things, constantly working to improve”.
Lobo asked Cooke “What’s new with your startup that we can share?” Cooke “This October, we’ll be launching at the Broadband World Forum, the world’s largest telecom event attracting over 10,000 executives from across the globe.”
